Equal Pay Day: Women's Daily Bread and Butter

Equal Pay Day is the point in the year when women earn symbolically the same as men did last year. It takes 18 months for women to earn what men do in 12 months. On April 16th Senator Kirsten Gillibrand addressed 300 advocates at a forum (#equalpaydayny) sponsored by the Equal Pay Coalition NYC, a project of the NY Women's Agenda, with co-sponsors A Better Balance and NYU Law Women as well as our very own Zonta Club of Greater Queens. You may not have been able to attend this event so listen in with our guest Dr. Karen Siegal, Phd as we talk about why women, who make up over half of the workforce, are making on average 77 cents for every 1 dollar earned by men.

Zonta Rose and International Women's Day 2012

In 1909 the first National Women's Day was observed, which in 1977 became known as International Women's Day. Listen in and learn about the link between this international celebration of working women and the observance of Zonta Rose Day. In studio guests include Anna Giordano who is spearheading a city-wide recycling program in the schools. Scholars, educators and community organizers Guisela Marroquin and professor Luis Quiros join our roundtable to introduce Project Madres to our audience. Project Madres is a program designed to help Latinas help themselves through resource referral and networking.
